ESERA 2021 Online Conference
CALL FOR PROPOSALS
The ESERA 2021 Online Conference will be organised by the University of Minho (Braga, Portugal) from 30 August to 3 September 2021.
The WebApp will be the new conference venue and adjustments to the scientific programme will be made in order to adapt to the new online format as well as to create an interactive participant experience.

The University of Minho, Braga, Portugal, is organising the online ESERA Conference 2021: Fostering scientific citizenship in an uncertain world, from 30 August to 3 September 2021. This event has already been announced, and the submission process is open until 15 January 2021. We expect to have a substantial number of proposals to be evaluated.

At the ESERA Conference 2019 the term of service of the following members of the ESERA Executive Board comes to an end: Costas Constantinou (President), Gjalt Prins (Treasurer), Sibel Erduran (Member responsible for collaboration with other organizations, research collaborations and science education policy), Mariona Espinet (Member responsible for Early Career researchers) and Robert Evans (Member responsible for Conferences and Summer Schools).

ESERA now has six SIGs, the most recent on Science Identities (SIG 5) and Language and Literacies in Science Education (SIG 6). SIG activities are supported by ESERA, and range from webinars and mini-conferences to joint publications and research applications. The next ESERA Summer School will be held in the seaside village of Kolymbari (Chania), in Crete, Greece from June 4th to June 9th, 2019. The lecture and workshop rooms as well as the rooms for accommodation and the dining rooms are located at the building of the Orthodox Academy of Crete (www.oac.gr), a public welfare institution in the category of National Foundations.

Every year ESERA arranges travel awards, of up to 1000 euros each, to enable people who are currently enrolled in doctoral studies or who were awarded their doctorate in the past three years to travel to research venues.

ESERA members also have access to travel funds for early career researchers, discounted participation in the ESERA conference and also receive a substantial discount on personal subscription to IJSE. Please note that in order to be eligible to participate as a member in the ESERA 2019 conference you will need to have been a member of the Association in 2018. This same policy was applied in previous conferences.

The aim of the series is to enhance the quality and impact of research in science education in Europe. The series intents to publish books that are innovative in the issues they explore, or the methods they use, or the ways in which emergent knowledge in the field is represented.

The ESERA Board now welcomes proposals by ESERA members to host the 2019 Summer School. Since the next ESERA conference in Bologna will be held in late August of 2019, the Summer School will be early in the summer to insure staff willingness to serve. Proposals are due by January 30th, 2018.

ESERA is offering travel awards of up to 1.000 euros each to enable ESERA members who are currently enrolled in doctoral studies or who were awarded their doctorate after 1st January 2015 to travel to research venues. The awards are intended to enable early career ESERA members to visit science education researchers with expertise relevant to your projectin other countries. At least one of the two countries involved in any proposal must be within Europe. For 2018 the total award fund is 10.000 euros. We invite applications from students and staff who wish to participate in the next ESERA Summer School, which will be held in Jyväskylä, Finland, June 25th to July 1st 2018. The Summer School is an excellent opportunity for students and staff to learn and share expertise about science education research. In total 49 students and less than 20 staff members will be selected from variety of countries.
