It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr Melina Furman, formerly Professora Investigadora at the University of San Andres (Argentina). She died at age 49 on Sept. 6 2024 after a long battle with colon cancer.
Melina was an Internationally renowned researcher in science education but also a teacher educator who dedicated her life to preparing beginning and in-service teacher to teach for creativity, the imagination and teaching in order to explore beautiful questions.
She led numerous Internationally funded projects dedicated to pedagogical innovation and the enhancement of teaching practice with a particular focus on creativity and collective action in contexts of social and economic deprivation.
In her latest years, she dedicated herself to communicating the work of science education to the wider public; she was a founding member of TEDxTalk-Rio de la Plata and her book “Enseñar Distinto. Guía Para Innovar Sin Perderse En El Camino” has been highly influential on the teaching profession in the Spanish-speaking world.
We remember her for her warmth, insightfulness and extreme dedication to her work, her colleagues, her students and her family. She was a researcher and a friend; a beautiful person who has left a message of hope for the educational world.
