For the first time ever, the ESERA Doctoral School took place in Luxembourg. It was hosted by the University of Luxembourg at the Esch-Belval Campus, from June 30 to July 3, 2026, and organised by the SciTeach Center team at the University of Luxembourg. The SciTeach Center is a resource space for teachers that has been promoting science education at the primary school level in Luxembourg for more than 10 years.
49 students from 23 different countries gathered in Luxembourg to present, discuss and critically reflect on their research. Accompanying them were 14 mentors who offered support and guidance in addition to providing seven interactive workshops and six open discussions. One more workshop was offered by the SciTeach Center Team, allowing participants to learn more about the research work of the Doctoral School hosts. The programme was further enriched by a guided tour of Luxembourg City, offering a glimpse into the interesting and layered history of the nation.
Importantly, the ESERA Doctoral School was able to facilitate a sense of community among science education researchers, as one of the student participants wrote: “It was overall just amazing and made me realize that I want to keep in academia. I want to meet up with researchers from around the world to talk and think about research”.
