Professorship in Chemistry Education

The University of Cologne is one of the oldest and largest universities in Germany. YOUR TASKS

As future holder of the professorship, you represent the field of Chemistry Education in research and teaching. Your focus in research is on current issues of Chemistry Education, complementing the existing research focus of the institute, and contributing to professionalism of teacher education.

You will be actively involved in joint research of the Departments of Mathematics and Natural Science Education, the Departments of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences as well as other Faculties doing teacher education. Your teaching includes subject-specific as well as didactic education of pre-service teachers including degree programs for teaching elementary schools, secondary and comprehensive schools as well as the Special Education teaching program. Additionally, your teaching includes the PCK professionalization of pre-service teachers preparing for teaching chemistry at grammar schools and vocational colleges. Further tasks include the acquisition of third-party funds and participation in the self-administration of the university.

YOUR PROFILE

You are a specialist in Chemistry Education, who has a scientific track record as well as experience in research and teaching at university level in the field of Chemistry Education. Additionally, you should have several years’ experience in professional teaching at schools. Experience in interdisciplinary research in other fields of educational studies, pedagogy/psychology and/or chemistry as well as existing national and international cooperation is desirable.

As a rule, the teaching load comprises nine semester hours per week (i.e., two hours per week is one 90-minute course per semester).
