Dear SIG3 Members
We are excited to connect and reconnect with you, virtually and in-person. Our sincere apologies for the long silence and slow start. Let’s make this an engaging and thought-provoking year.
First task, the SIG has been asked to propose keynote speakers for the ESERA 2025 Conference in Copenhagen. We thought of two possibilities, both with expertise in outdoor science education. We would appreciate your input, including your suggestions for others whom you would like to hear from.
- Rolf C. Jucker: Managing director at SILVIVA – Swiss Foundation for Experiental Environmental Education. Author of 56 publications, currently his work is focused on how to establish an evidence-based approach to sustainability education. He holds a critical vision on sustainability and sustainability teaching, with books such as Can We Cope with the Complexity of Reality? Why Craving Easy Answers Is at the Root of our Problems.
Karen Barfod: Karen Barfod is head of research for the Programme for Outdoor Education at the Research Centre for Education and Formation and affiliated with the teacher education programme at VIA University (Denmark). Karen Barfod is one of the leading European experts in the development of outdoor schools, with special knowledge of training teachers to handle teaching. She is chairman of the national association UdeskoleNet and in 2014 received the Outdoor School Award.
Second task, activities for this year. We’ll offer some suggestions and schedule in the next few weeks. We’d like to start with hearing from you on the types of activities and opportunities that you’d like to engage in. What would entice you to participate? What would you like to do together? Who would you like to talk with? What would inspire you to connect? How would you like to connect: online, in-person, over social media?
We’re looking forward to the possibilities.
Looking forward to hearing from you!
