The ESERA Summer School took place in Luxembourg, hosted by the University of Luxembourg at the Esch-Belval Campus, from June 30 to July 3, 2026. It was organised by the SciTeach Center team at the University of Luxembourg. The SciTeach Center is a resource space for teachers that promotes science education at the primary school level in Luxembourg.
The ESERA Summer School offered doctoral students a number of opportunities to meet and discuss their research in small, supportive groups and with mentors, in addition to participating in workshops provided by science education researchers at different career stages. A total of 49 doctoral students were selected based on a review of their proposals, taking into consideration the diversity of countries and fields of interest in science education. 14 mentors were also selected according to specific selection criteria.
Luxembourg is located in the centre of Europe, bordering Belgium, France and Germany. It is easily accessible by train, providing a sustainable and environmentally friendly way of travelling. In cases where a flight was necessary, Luxembourg also offered access through its international airport, Findel, which had direct flights from several European destinations.
Campus Esch-Belval was the University of Luxembourg’s main site. Located close to Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg’s second-largest city, it combined research and teaching with urban life and leisure activities. Once home to Luxembourg’s largest steelworks, the site featured research and learning facilities, the University Library and Learning Centre, as well as student accommodation.
